Habbo Hotel Casino Guide GuideScroll

Maybe someone has to rebuild Habbo under a different name... LETS GO!?

Hey guys. I’m reading the negative news on our lovely former hotel game for years now. What we can see here is that Habbo is never going back to the best years as it was before.
Casino’s, RPG’s, Public games/rooms, Selfmade games and the trading.
Habbo proofed time to time that they are just doing what they want and completely ignore their userbase.
An old wise man told me: if you think it can get better, do it your own. I just realised that. Why can we not throw up the ball ourselves? The internet is a powerful tool. There must be someone or a company who thinks about a virtual social game like Habbo?
Let’s discuss this!
NOTE: do not speak about retro’s please. These Are against the terms of service of Habbo. Retros can be a scam and they are never guaranteed to work in a later stadium since they are depending on the Habbo builds for FlashPlayer.
I think we have to see if a whole new platform can be a reality. Build from the ground up, with the same interface and game principles as Habbo. An 18+ game to allow casino’s!

If you were the CEO of Sulake, what would you do to make Habbo popular again?

My story, how I spent my time on Habbo through the years.

Habbo has been a very relevant part of my life since late 2005. Earlier on, I was playing Habbo just to talk to people, share stories, the usual. I wasn't into trading, building anything or collecting. For me, I saw Habbo as an escape from all the shit that would happen in real life.

I had three accounts. I'm from the .ca hotel, but I never really stuck to it. I played on .co.uk and .com. I frequently hung out in public rooms, trade rooms, casinos and basically anything that caught my eye. I'd just admire the creativity, enjoy being with people from around the world.

It was only this year that I had been lucky enough to win a throne from a competition. After doing so, I decided to build a sort of chatbox, but for the old Habbos, we called these "boxes" back in the day. People would hang out in them, chat, etc. But since I had won something of value, I sold it on the marketplace and made a 500c profit and got to work. This was the result.

Shortly after the box was finished, I learned that Flash was being discontinued. Today I have made my decision to leave Habbo for good before they ruin it with the horrifying changes they are making, as you can see here in this article. Every social networking platform needs a vibe for people to follow, and the vibes that the new UI brings just seem so bland. Looks too cartoonish, perhaps aimed towards children.

Thank you for reading.

Why did habbo become so impopular? Why do they fail to make it popular again?

Habbo was such a popular game where I lived. Every day there were like 9000 people online at the same time at the peak hours. I get that two things caused a big decline in active players. 1) the ban of casinos and 2) the big mute. Of course those events lead to many people stopping. I'm asking myself why Habbo fails in attracting new players. I've got a few "hypothesises" but I don't know if they're right.
1) They made HC very expensive: €5 a month. Very expensive rares are no expecption: many collectibles/rares costed like 500 credits.
2) There is no close relationship between the hotel manageother staff and the players. Nowadays, I have no clue who the MODS and staff of Habbo NL are. When I was very active, the hotel manager (Lotus) was a celebrity. She wrote news & messages on a frequent basis. Everyone LOVED, feared, and looked up to her. Whenever she entered a room, everyone flooded her with love and respect. People send her a lot of gifts and throphees and so on. That disappeared. I don't know if the hotel managers in other countries were also THAT beloved though. I'm interested in hearing about this.
3) The abundance of everything. Literally earning badges by clicking on something. Releasing a lot of furni multiple times a year. This used to be very rare and very exciting but nowadays it's just "meh, another collection?". Many pieces of furni also don't really fit inside the design of Habbo. Besides badges and furni, there are also way too much clothes I think. THey also don't fit the design and are too numerous.
What do you guys think? I'm not a clear writer so I repeat that I'm aware why so many people stopped but I'm not sure WHY THEY DON'T ATTRACT NEW, ACTIVE MEMBER.

What happened to all the players?

It has been over 14 years since I played this game and came back to see how it was doing after remembering the game slightly, but just barely.
I can clearly remember though in my head that there were over 100000 concurrent players back in the day when I played this, but now there is only around a few hundred people around at peak times. They are also toxic as rattlesnake venom.
How did the game become so desolate? Its understandable that old games lose popularity overtime, but there are games that are just as old such as wow and runescape that maintain a high player base even with their age.
Did the game go though drastic changes, or is the style of game just isn't fit for most people anymore?

We're possibly making a New Habbo/Sims style game?

Hi there,
I work within a small little team of around 6 people currently, we're working on a game that's fundementatly based on the 2003-2005 Habbo Hotel platform while expandng upon it with modern concepts and such.
But first, before I talk about our game, let me talk to you about my own experinces within Habbo:
I played Habbo Hotel when I was in high school, payed money to get furni, ran a casino that (wasn't full of scammers, I even refunded people who got scammed by people who'd try scam others in my casino haha), was worth around 200 Thrones before Credits were implemented into in-game items... then I just... quit I guess? I don't remember my reasoning, I remember swapping accounts for a better name at one point but never came back afterwards.
I tried to come back in 2013 or so, but the game had changed too much. They got rid of Casino's which was my bread and butter, some of my furni got lost in the merge (thanks Sulake for never looking into this, I guess? Not sure if this happened to anyone else either?)
I even tried recently and had to get things like a trading pass and I had no idea how the achievement system worked and had to ask randoms who were like "how does this 10 year account guy not know how to trade?"... pretty embarrassing... There was all this new furni that I honestly felt very overwhelmed by and people who went into my rooms that helped me get the trading pass were shocked at some of the "old, hardly seen" rares... Apparently Holo Girls are very uncommon now even though they're gorgeous items?
The trading and selling system now seems so out of touch to what I remember. I remember using Habbox for values because Sulake never wanted to assocciate price to items that weren't in the catalog at the given time, so we as a community made our own eco system... Now it seems Sulake took over and associated everything to a base credit value? "A throne is worth 450 credits? What's that in HC Sofas?" is how I felt... Perhaps I'm too old school?
The community seems overran with young children. Given I was a young kid when I first played, it seems the general age seems to have dropped considerably. There's also so many pedophiles... it's actually shocking... Sulake just don't seem to do anything about it? What happened to this company?
I loved 2003-2005 Habbo, it had so much promise in my opinion. But there were things that were always done poorly.
A little fact about how furni works: each furni has a history stored within the game, it's previous owner, who it was transferred to, when it was purchases and created. It has it's own ID and it's easily tracable if someone hacked you and took your furni. Not to mention IP logs are taken and back then Proxies weren't a big thing so most hackers just use the same connection they played the game with.
** Please correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like Sulake got rid of the following: **
** About Our Game: **
We began work on our little Habbo Sims style game a little over a month ago using Unity currently... this may change depending on limitations we encounter. Perhaps we'll go back to a HTML5 JavaScript based game for the browser, we're not sure, yet.
We extracted imagery from Habbo as a base template, have made over 200 commits to our repo and have the following things working:
We're working on the following:
And much more to follow.
As I said before, we're currently using Habbo's asset set to make this game... so it's isometric, like Habbo... but we'll be replacing all the assets with a stylized, cell shaded, look where almost all the furniture will be hand-drawn as well as the characters and their clothing.
Am I and my team the only ones who want a game like this, or does this game sound appealing to you?
Our work is completely, and utterly, based on our experiences with Habbo and The Sims and what it feels like to be creative with a toolset... and we have one last thing to mention... Our item carrier is inspired by Habbo of 2003's giant hand... with a twist...
It's a bag. Every character always has a bag with them, but, the giant hand is here... It just goes into the bag and then shows you the items. ;)
...Oh and yes, we'd like to keep the casino idea, even if it would mean a forced adult age rating...
Right now we're just looking to see if people are interested in this, and well, we were hoping a lot of older habbo players would be here to see if this is what you're interested in?
Let us know in the comments, thanks.

A few things!

I’m not sure how active this subreddit is, but I just found it out of curiosity haha. Does anyone from (formerly) habbo.ca have any screenshots or photos of some of the old rooms or any memories of some of the iconic staff members from the early 2000’s? (Old adoption centres or casinos? Old staff screenshots of people life Puffin?)
Also, does anyone still play? I see it’s super dead but I know some people moved to retros or have gotten back into Habbo Hotel (even though it’s gotten super rough).

What ever happened to Habbo Hotel.

As a 2004 player, here's why Habbo died (in my opinion)

This is an edited re-post of a reply I made earlier:
I started this game in 2004. I used to be obsessed with the game. I remember playing CokeMusic in 2003 and someone randomly name-dropping Habbo and never returning to CokeMusic after I discovered this game. I remember thinking it was a lego game. I remember being fascinated with the endless possibilities of an isometric 3D social game back in 2004. I remember how simple the game was. In terms of interface, design, avatar clothing, furniture, and so on. I remember the wealthy casino owners (on UK) like Jesta and interwebz.
In my opinion, the game went downhill once they started adding gimmicks like groups (yup, to give you a sense of how old I am) to the game. By the time they started adding the rest like quests and pixel furni, and so on, the game was already a shell of it's former self. Then they started adding a bunch of pointless gimmicky tacky clothes and accesories and furniture. The virtual design of the objects being added had lost the minimalistic integrity it once had. Simplicity was key here. I can't stress it enough. Look up pictures of "Habbo 2004" in Google if you don't understand. Habbo lost the minimalism that defined it in the early days. Basic furniture, basic clothes, basic rooms, basic interface - but the most important aspect of the game was the socialization. Just striking up random conversations with random people. Making friends with random people without needing to know their Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat 10 seconds after meeting them (again to give you a sense of how long ago I played the game).
Also, the transfer from Shockwave to flash made the game icky. Remember the iconic front page? With the ribbon "click here" button? Remember the simplicity of hotel view and cars driving by? Now it's just cluttered links and words that no one reads. And static pictures promoting some new feature or furniture or event. It's all so eye-glazing. If someone my age finds it too boring to look at, imagine someone who's 13, 14?
In addition to this, the advent of social media ruined this game. The game was booming before Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. When the rest of the world didn't have a reason to be on the internet. It was a breath of fresh air. Like the internet in general. Even places like YouTube were breaths of fresh air. The internet now, though? Billions of users everyday. Everywhere feels cluttered and claustrophobic. I feel drowned out now. I feel like I'm just a tiny peep in an endless sea of voices, opinions, articles, arguments, etc. The internet has gone mainstream. The patience required to play a game like Habbo no longer exists in youth today. That's a fact.
Okay, so what really ruined the game? Three things:
One, the merger. Once all of the English-speaking hotels merged, a lot of things got funked up. It was actually really exciting at first (because I was kind of rich, and had a lot of "rare names" on the game that I love flaunting. There were more casinos to gamble in, more poeple to talk with, etc. But to be honest, that was the peak. Then the culture clashes of people from USA, UK, Australia, NZ, and Singapore caused some people to drop out. People missed the local feel of their hotels. (I remembered how much I loved "taking vacations" to other hotels to get a taste of their culture). Plus, the confusion of login information and same-name mixups caused a lot of people to throw their hands up in frustration and quit. A lot of rare usernames were destroyed with symbols, for example.
The second thing that ruined this game, and in my opinoin the most important was the "Great mute". I can't remember when it happened. But the whole Channel 4 debacle and the months-long mute destroyed Habbo. A lot of long-term players quit. A lot of noobs quit. The game had terrible public relations, investors pulled their money out of the game, and parents forbid their children from joining. As a result, revenue dropped, so gimmicks and elaborate schemes (massive advertisements, pointless money-grabbing furniture and clothes, etc.) on Habbo's part grew more obvious. When the game was finally unmuted, the hotel was a ghost town. A lot of people who were heavily addicted to the game were able to quit the game, albiet involuntarily. Because by the time the game was unmuted, they realized how much of their lives they were wasting on the game... and they chose not to come back. This happened in another gaming community I used to play. It was a rhythm arrow-based game. The community was at it's peak Christmas 2011. Then the website owners "were making changes" to the site which was supposed to be temporary. Ended up lasting like 4 months. A lot of people lost their skills and a lot of people quit after then.
The last thing that ruined the game and really put the nail in the coffin was the banning of gambling. I wasn't a gambler at all, but I always went into the casinos to see who the latest rich people were, the new designs in the casinos, and just watch the highrollers making big bets. That was the last thing Habbo had going for it in terms of old-school users and dedicated users. Gambling was the economy of Habbo. It was the stock market of Habbo. It was where wealth was traded and transferred. A lot of people just quit once that ended up happening, and the economy froze (not necassarily crashed) once that happened.

[TOMT] [website] [early 2000s] Virtual world website similar to Second Life

I used to play this browser-based game back in 2002-2004ish, similar to Second Life, Habbo Hotel, Coke Studios, etc. etc.
Can't remember much about it except you could fly around (?), own your own house, play arcade or casino games with your character, and the name of the website was something fairly generic (Like "Smallworld" or "Cooltown", definitely not either of those but maybe similar)
I can't find it on any "Games similar to Second Life" lists out there (so it wasn't anything popular like IMVU, Twinity, or There) and it's driving me crazy. Any ideas?

Anyone from the 02-06 era?

Hey, anyone from the UK habbo 02-06 era? Just going through some posts and getting very nostalgic. My main habbo was CrAzY_will if anyone remembers, also had an account called SpiderGutz which funnily enough i still use that name to this day.
I wouldn't mind hearing from the OG habbos from back in the day, casinos, stacking, fallin furni, helpdesks, hobbas, mods, Hotel Mangers Jibbi, Ione, Lost_witness (who i was friends with at one point!)
Habbo has changed so much now and for obvious reasons (maturity) i havent played it since the good ol days.

Complaints from my perspective; primarily played from 2006-2009. Drifted away in 2010 and recently logged back on.

I, like many of you have spent more time than I am willing to admit on Habbo Hotel. I play on .com (US) and a little bit on Uk because why not. I loved the game, got to talk to some people from all over the US and around the world. It was awesome. I loved casinos and furni shops. I had rights and dealt in some pretty awesome casinos (RPL, Xx.....U....XX, etc.) I even for a little while owned my own casinos.
Yes, I have been complaining There are some positives:

Who is someone you encountered in an online game that you will never forget?

My first serious online game was Habbo Hotel. I was probably 12 or 13 and I wanted to join in on the fun, have some furniture and trade my furniture for other things. My goal was to own a casino. At the time I didn't have access to my parents' credit cards (still don't hah), so I did what any other person would've done: I begged. I begged, played games that awarded the winner with furniture, and attended furniture giveaways that had me lined up for hours, only to find out that there was no furniture left. I played games which were scams in the end, where there would be a winner, and they would just kick them out of the room.
I eventually recieved a rubber duck, from a random guy. I went into my room out of boredom and randomly found it there (in the game you can create a room that allows other people to drop their items into it). Now I was fucking ecstatic. In the game, the rubber duck was worth 1 credit. It was around halloween, and ended up trading that for a Halloween duck (it had green ooze coming out of it), which was worth 1 credit as well. Since this was more of a seasonal item, some people put more weight on it. I eventually found someone that was collecting Halloween goods and I ended up trading my Halloween duck for something worth three credits, and from there I traded for more seasonal items since it was Christmas, and eventually got up to 25 credits worth of goods through more trading, and a little bit of gambling.
I knew that I couldn't own a casino right away, but my best bet would've been to own something that made me of higher status, and what was the best way I could do this? Own something that the people that subscribe to the game own. I researched catalogues of what subscribers owned, and got lucky one day, and was able to trade my 25 credit goods to a Nordic table, which was not as desired, but was still desired by some.
This Nordic table was not an easy sell. I knew this, but bought it out of desperation and to seal my status as higher class since I knew that selling an item of this caliber is easier than selling many grungy items.
Luckily, I ended up trading this to a sap for something worth double its actual value. With this, I knew I was in the home free. I now reached a huge milestone in my game career. Shit, I felt great, forget about this guy that I ripped the fuck off.
But this wasn't enough. I still wanted that casino. So I kept trading. Going from exclusive items that everyone valued, to grungy items because I knew how desperate some people were to own an exclusive item that they'd willing to be ripped off to get the goods. And going from grungy items back to exclusive items.
I eventually had two amazing items, which still wasn't enough to afford a casino with, but I felt so fucking proud of all of the hard work that I accomplished. The worst part was that I didn't want to trade anymore, I was bored. I was bored of the usual routine. I got careless. So I decided that it was now or never.
I walked into a casino, and noticed all of the amazing furniture and decorations that this guy had. I knew what I had against me, but I looked at his decorations and assumed that this guy has all of this amazing furniture, if he scammed people, he would've been long gone. He couldn't have been a scammer. Not at all. So I told the guy that I wanted to play a game of 21. I sent him one of my items, in hopes that I would win and I'd get double, and he accepted the deal. I scored 18. Then it was his turn. He scored a perfect 21, and my item was gone. I was devastated, but decided to win it back. And so we were at it again. This time I scored a perfect 21. I was jumping for fuckin joy! I knew that the only time I would lose is if he also got 21. So now it's his turn, and he rolls over 21! I won! It was all perfect! I was so ready to recieve my two items back, that I immediately initiated the trade, so he could give me the two items. So up the trade window comes, but instead of inserting the items, he cancels it. That's odd. And before I know it, I was kicked out of the fucking room. I was scammed. There went my hard work. 8-9 years after, and I still can't forget the fuckers username. I probably deserved it though. I ripped a lot of people off. I became greedy. I started prioritizing this over a lot of other things.
tl;dr: I started with nothing, got a duck and after a series of trading, scamming, and gambling, I got to a novelty item, but ultimately ended up with nothing.
